Mountain biking in the Austrian alps

Believe it or not, Kitzbühel is not just about Mountain biking! There are plenty of opportunities to see the countryside in other ways. Below are some ideas of activities everyone can take part in. All of these can be arranged prior to your arrival or with us once you are here.

walking

Hundreds of kilometres of walking trails in the immediate area are there to be explored. Discover mountain peaks, waterfalls and beautiful pine forests. Kitzbühel is an ideal base for the leisurely or adventurous walker. For more experienced walkers, Klettersteig climbing routes, in the stunning "Wilder Kaiser" mountain range offer great rewards for those free of vertigo. Local climbing guides can be booked on request.

rafting

River rafting in nearby Kirchdorf is suitable for the whole family (children from 4 years). The Tiroler Ache river winds its way 30 km down through the Schleching gorge and into Germany. Stop at the river side for a BBQ lunch. A fantastic way to enjoy the area.

For the braver amongst you, white water rafting on the rivers Imst, Öetz or Inn just the other side of Innsbruck provides a rush for anyone on the fast flowing water with grades 3-5. Ride the rapids with highly trained guides. Wet you will be!

canyoning

Extreme thrills for anyone prepared to abseil down waterfalls and jump great heights into whirling pools! All in the most stunning of settings. Wetsuits and everything you need provided.

Paragliding

If you ever wanted to fly, then Kitzbühel is a perfect place to do it. With the stunning "Wilder Kaiser" mountains as a back drop you will find no better mountain edge to take the leap.

Tandem flights are the perfect way to first experience flying. If you get the bug then nearby paragliding schools offer courses for you to take.

Here are a few other activities you can take part in around Kitzbühel. Numerous golf-courses, Horse riding, summer toboggan runs, Aquarena leisure complex, Ice skating, Animal Park, several swimming lakes, skate park, Alpen flower garden, and many more are available in the local area.

Excursions
On those all important rest days there is plenty of things to do and see in the area surrounding Kitzbühel. Organised excursions to beautiful cities and beauty spots can easily be arranged. Visit Salzburg, the birth place of Mozart. The festival performance city with the fortress "Hohen Salzburg" as the highest point of the city makes a wonderful day out. Take the time and enjoy the flair of Austria's prettiest city. Just over an hour to drive from Kitzbühel.

The beer halls of Munich await you in Bavarians capital city. And a day trip to the nearby Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck makes a day to remember. Some Highlights of Innsbruck are: "Goldenes Dachl", "Neues Wahrzeichen", "Schloss Ambrass" museum and not to forget the Alpenzoo or Bergisel Olympic Ski jump.

For nature lovers there is also plenty to see in the wonderful Kitzbüheler Alps. A must see is Austria's highest mountain, Grossglockner. View the peak at nearly 4000m and walk down onto the glacier. Weekly trips to the base of the mountain allow stunning views as you wind up the high alpine road.

Also nearby are the impressive Krimml waterfalls with the highest vertical drop of any in Europe. Kitzbühel truly is a great place to see the forces of nature at work.
